Investigating the Function of the Main Soliloquies in...
Investigating the Function of the Main Soliloquies in Shakespeares Hamlet ââ¬Å"Hamletâ⬠is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in around 1601 when Queen Elizabeth the first was on the throne. In the play we see the royal court of Denmark becoming more and more corrupt with ghosts, murder, madness and incest, culminating in the highest death toll in any of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays. The lead character of Hamlet is an intellectual whose aim in the play is to avenge his fatherââ¬â¢s death by killing his uncle, the king. However his tendency to think too much and inability to carry out his actions gets in the way of him bringing the king to justice, and this hesitancy is a major recurring theme in the play.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦To top it all off there are rumours that a ghostly vision is appearing nightly on the castle battlements. Leading up to his first soliloquy, hamlets mother is trying to tell Hamlet to stop grieving for his father. This only angers Hamlet further, until he explains his feelings of anger and despair to the audienc e in his soliloquy. The soliloquy starts by using imagery to describe Hamletââ¬â¢s feelings towards the situation. Language such as ââ¬Å"flat and unprofitableâ⬠is used when describing Hamletââ¬â¢s world, telling the audience that he feels hopeless and in despair. The imagery of ââ¬Å"an unweeded gardenâ⬠conjures images of a nasty, messy situation in the royal court, and when he mentions ââ¬Å"things rank and gross in natureâ⬠the audience would start to realise that the court is corrupt in Hamletââ¬â¢s eyes. It becomes clear in the middle of the soliloquy that Hamlet blames this corrupt situation on the hasty marriage of his mother to Claudius. In the passage, Hamlet likens his deceased father to Hyperion, who was a Titan God in Greek mythology. Then Hamlet likens the new king, Claudius, to a ââ¬Å"satyrâ⬠which was in those days used to describe a grotesque half-man half-goat. Hamlets reference to his dead father as Hyperion and to his uncle Claudius as a satyr

Aes Case Solution Essay - 1271 Words
1. How would you evaluate the capital budgeting method used historically by AES? Whatââ¬â¢s good and bad about it? ââ¬Å"When AES undertook primarily domestic contract generation projects where the risk of changes to input and output prices was minimal, a project finance framework was employed.â⬠Usually, project finance framework is used when the project has predictable cash flows, which can easily represent operating targets through explicit contract. When cash flows are certainty, the company can have higher level of leverage and it is easier to separate project assets from the parent company. Advantages and Disadvantages: 1) Advantages a. Maximize Leverage b. Off-Balance Sheet Treatment c. Agency Cost d. Multilateralâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦project and Pakistan project are 8.07% (4.5%+3.47%), in which both U.S. project and Pakistan project have a same spread, 3.47%. To adjust we add the sovereign risk into calculation. In Exhibit 7a, the sovereign risk for the U.S. is 0% but for Pakistan is 9.9%. We thereby get the new evaluation of the cost of capital and cost of debt, which are constant for U.S. and rise to 17.1% and 17.97% for Pakistan. Finally we calculate the WACC. The formula is leveraged beta * (cost of capital) + Debt to capital * (cost of debt) * (1-tax rate). Then we get for the U.S. WACC= 6.48% and for Pakistan WACC= 15.93%. Finally, we should adjust the WACC with its risk score. Because everything is calculated in U.S. dollar, the U.S. risk score is 0. So the U.S. projects WACC is constant. The Pakistan risk premium is 1.425. So the change is 1.425 * 500= 705bp = 7.05%. Therefore, we get the final Pakistan WACC, which is 23.08% (15.93%+7.05%). In conclusion, the difference between the U.S. and Pakistan projects is 16.60%. Obviously, the U.S. project looks much more favorable. 3. Does this make sense as a way to do capital budgeting? The financial strategy employed by AES was historically based on project finance. The model worked well in the domestic market and in the international operations. However, when AES started its diversification of business, it had to face to increasing symmetrical risks, such as business risk. Martial Arts Essay Summary Example For Students
Martial Arts Essay Summary To most martial arts is about the hard-style, external arts such as Karate and Maui Thai. Tai Chi Chuan however, developed out of Taoist ideology and the concept of universal balance. Primarily it was committed to physical fitness and spiritual progress, but over time, the monks needed protection against growing warlords and thugs and so, the external aspect of Tai Chi Chuan evolved and an usual mixture of a healing art, exercise and meditation developed. A teacher taught his students, The man who does not seek to struggle with others will find that others are not able to struggle with him. Think if still water. You push it, and, yielding, it finds its original place. You cannot hit anything if there is nothing to hit. Tai Chi Chuan originally developed out of Tai Chi, a similar concept that began around 2000 BC partly influenced by yoga. In China, yoga came to be developed into what is called Saolin chuan (chuan, means boxing). Around 13th AD Chang Seng Feng developed what is known as Tai Chi. Different families studied Tai Chi and developed their own unique styles giving them different names. Tai Chi styles practiced today came from the Chen family. Yang studied the Chen style and modified it to form the Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan, which is the style commonly practiced today. Tai Chi Chuan is part of a larger concept, Taoism. The Tao means the Way or a Path. According to Tao-te Ching, the core Taoist texts, the feeling of being one with the Way can only be experienced and not just known. One must coordinate all the body, the brain, the breathing to realize the feeling of being connected to everything. In Tai Chi Chuan, movement with meditation is done with the purpose of realizing connectivity by feeling in tune with the omnipotent force Chi, or in Japanese, Zen. Chi is everything everywhere; we are all a part of it and so, are connected to each other. Once in tune with Chi, one must apply those principles in daily life to be one with the Tao. The Taoist philosophy of Yin and Yang, soft and hard or the opposites arises from the Taoist belief that humans view the world in terms of opposites, right or wrong, dislike or like. And those beliefs are changing all the time, if a person we dislike does something nice, then we start liking them. We fail to realize that something is just is. FSU is good and bad. It might not be as good as Harvard, but when compared to a University from a third world country, it is quite good. However, for us, it is one or the other and this prevents us from realizing and incorporating the Tao. We have to be empty of such preconceived notions in order to be one with Chi, to comprehend the true nature of things. Emptiness of the mind leads to understanding of the only constant, change. It allows for constantly changing thought processes and a constant sense of inquiry needed to understand that life is a matter of change and If you try to make yourself secure at all costs in life then you cling either the Yin or the Yang. Any fixed idea, when it conflicts with what we call the flow of life, is bound to lead to a loss of balance. It is related to what the early psychologists called a complex. The ability to manipulate thought strengthens ones concentration is referred in martial arts as centering ones mind and the idea is central to Tai Chi Chuan as it allows for change, correction and healing.

The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers Essay Example
The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers Paper JJ 1 J. J. . . . The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers In July of 2007, I explored the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the first time. I had driven down Highway 12 to a beach house for the summer vacation. The environment of the open sea touched by the narrow land gave me a feeling of wonderment as I observed the coastline and its beauty. During that first visit I noted that the ocean surf was strong and the sky constantly changing. On each visit to the Outer Banks, I challenged myself to learn something new of the Outer Banks long history. It was on my third visit to the Outer Banks when I discovered the story of a unique group of black men who were Life Savers. These black Life Savers worked for the government after the reconstruction period of the Civil War and defined the standard of performance in the United States Life-Saving Service; later to become the United States Coast Guard. My history lesson of this unique group black Life Savers began at the Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station Historic Site. My wife and I spent the day traveling along Highway 12 until we reached the Lifesaving Station in the village of Rodanthe. James shared his passion for the history of the U. S Life-Saving Service with me. He recommended the documentary film RESCUE MEN-The Story of Pea Island to me. James said the DVD would explain about the U. S Life-Saving Service of the Outer Banks. JJ 2 The film begins with a quote The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. from Martian Luther King. At the beginning of the film, I was placed in the middle of a great storm on the terrible night of October 11, 1896 when the schooner E. S. Newman grounded south of the Pea Island Lifesaving Station. Captain S. A. Gardiner and eight others clinging to the wreckage saw two life savers swimming toward them and realized they were black men. It was not until 1996 that the crew of the Pea Island Life-Saving Station was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal for their efforts in saving all crew and family members. This late but honorable recognition was explained in further detail in the film. Blacks living during the ââ¬Å"Jim Crowâ⬠era as these Life Savers were, found their contributions to the history of the Outer Banks often neglected from the public they served. A key character in the film was Richard Etheridge, a slave born on January 16, 1842. Etheridge was the property of John B. Etheridge on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Large plantations did not exist in the Outer Banks; African Americans were relatively few and slavery limited. During his early life, Richard Etheridge learned to work the sea, fishing, piloting boats and combing the beach for the refuse of wrecks. Even though it was illegal to do so, his master also taught him to read and write. After the fighting began between the States, the Outer Banks were the site of one of the first Northern invasions. In February 1862, Union commanders employed black labor to build fortifications for the Union armies. The Union realized the potential that the recruitment of Southern blacks offered their forces but at the same time diminishing the oppositions labor JJ 3 supply. Black troops started to enlist during the summer of 1863. Richard Etheridge joined on August 28. In the 1870s, some of the Outer Banks black army veterans found jobs as Surfmen in the U. S. Life-Saving Service, which had opened seven stations on North Carolinaââ¬â¢s coast. Until 1880, the men served with white men at various stations along the Outer Banks in integrated or ââ¬Å"checkerboardâ⬠crews. After fighting in the Civil War for the Union, Richard Etheridge joined the U. S. Life-Saving Service. During this time in the Outer Banks, the U. S. Life-Saving Service was full of cronyism and white crews were handpicked by the local politicians. Blacks only held the lowest of positions, such as cooks and stable hands. It was not until the Pea Island Life-Saving Station, crewed by mostly whites, had become incapable of performing rescues that Sumner Kimball, the General Superintendent of the U. S. Life-Saving Service, appointed Richard Etheridge keeper of the Pea Island Station. Etheridge the only black man to lead a lifesaving crew and became the Pea Island Station first black Captain. Captain Etheridge recruited and trained only blacks to man Station 17 know as the Pea Island Station. In 1880, although civilian attitudes towards Etheridge and his men ranged from curiosity to outrage, the Pea Island Station crew figured among the most courageous Surfmen in the service, performing many daring rescues from 1880 to the closing of the station in 1947. The film provides many insightful details of the daily lives of these black Surfmen who turn out to be the best Live Saving crew of the Outer Banks. At the conclusion of the film, the JJ 4 narrator leaves the viewer with his observation. ââ¬Å"The Pea Island crew saved scores of men, women and children, who, under other circumstances would have been considered the hands of those reaching out to help them, to be of the wrong race. â⬠I look forward to my next visit to the Outer Banks and may I be as fortunate to discover something new about the history of North Carolina.

Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay Example
Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay Example Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay this is a rare happening. While this sense of female laterality continues, it brings a more negative intension the farther into the novel it gets. In add-on, it is rapidly learned that Brett s figure one concern in her insatiate desire for sex. A relationship in her eyes is defined by the sum of and quality of sexual intercourse that she can acquire. While she is apparently capable of Craig2 loving person, as we see in chapter 4 and beyond, love is non of import plenty to predominate. Love you? I merely turn all to jelly when you touch me, ( Hemingway, p.34 ) is what she mentions to Jake during the first brush that we see in the novel. Her relationship with Jake is neer to the full understood and decidedly neer reaches its full potency due to her inability to perpetrate to anything of substance. Brett genuinely seems more interested in holding a good clip, which can be seen through her promiscuous actions and changeless partying. In add-on, she wanders through life by going and merely sweeping in and out of people s lives. She genuinely shows her shallow nature through these actions. Another illustration of when we can see more of her superficiality appears in chapter 5 when we foremost become cognizant of the fact that she is really engaged. Bing foremost introduced to her by cognizing her promiscuousness and so subsequently larning she is engaged, makes her look even more of a negative character. Besides being shallow, it can besides be said that she is one of the most selfish characters in the full book. She leads a really unsettling life and comes through others lives like a twister. She does what she wants and neer considers the effects that her actions have on others. We can truly see this through her actions with Jake. She is invariably inquiring for reassurance of his love for her, yet has non intentions on following through with a relationship. Brett has a wont of doing programs with Jake and so standing him up. Jake inquiries her, You do nt retrieve anything about a day of the month with me at the Crillon? In which Brett answers, No. Did we have one? I must hold been blind ( Hemingway, p.61 ) . She continually leads him on, and while he knows there truly is nt a opportunity that anything will come of their feelings for each other, it is like throwing salt on his lesions at every reference of her love for him. In add-on to moving Craig 3 egotistically towards Jake, which is the most terrible, she besides is handling her fiance Mike badly egotistically. She reasonably openly has personal businesss and expects him to stand at that place and delay for her. Between the combination of her promiscuousness and selfishness, we can acquire a complete image of Brett as a truly inconsiderate individual. When we look at all these factors, and while I do hold a much more negative position of Lady Brett than positive, I ca nt assist but inquire if this behaviour is a consequence of being confused and afraid. Someone feeling unsure about the way her life is traveling, may move in ways that they think will hold no foreseeable effects in the immediate hereafter. What she is non looking at is the bigger image. She is a unrecorded daily sort of miss, and looking towards her hereafter does nt look to be a inquiry in her head. It is mentioned in the book that this group has all experienced the adversities of WWI in some manner or another. The catastrophe has truly hit them all and they are fighting to happen significance in their lives post-war. Many of them neer wanted the war to get down with, and they are now covering with the hurts of life after war. We would likely hold gone on and discussed the war and agreed that it was in world a catastrophe for civilisation, and possibly would hold been better avoided ( Hemingway, p. 24-25 ) . In add-on to covering with the war, it is learned through a conversation between Jake and Cohn that Brett had married shortly after her true love died. When did she get married Ashley? During the war. Her ain true love had merely kicked off with dysentery ( Hemingway, p.46 ) . The fact that Brett suffered through the loss of her true love could be the root of all of her recent negative actions. She could hold been so overwrought from the loss of her love, that she now found it difficult to let herself to truly autumn for another adult male, and if she seems to hold Craig 4 feelings, like she does with Jake, she pushes them aside. All of her jokes could really be a defence mechanism and her existent ground for being selfish roots from fright. Leting herself to open up to another individual would open her up for the possibility of grief and hurt. Overall, the war left her alone and without any way as to where her life was traveling. She was left to fundamentally get down her life over. Afraid and unsure, she chose to populate a life filled with sex and intoxicant. Another cause of her inability to perpetrate to a adult male could be due to her dishevelled and corrupt yesteryear matrimony with Lord Ashley. He ever made Brett kip on the floor. Finally, when he got truly bad, he used to state her he d kill her ( Hemingway, p.207 ) . This unstable and violent relationship most likely farther damaged any staying religion she may hold had in relationships. The feeling I got from reading the novel was that the lone ground she was in an battle was because they had a relationship of convenience and were comfy plenty in their dysfunctional relationship. An illustration of eventually seeing an ounce of morality in Brett is exposed during the last chapter when she leaves Romero. At first, Brett seemed to hold a connexion with him, and she most likely still did upon go forthing him, but she claimed that he was immature and she did nt desire to ache him. She knew she would nt be able to stay faithful. While this ab initio seemed to be an admirable move, this determination could hold besides easy been driven by selfishness or her fright of settling down and/or conforming. She knew Romero loved her, but wanted her to be something that she could nt perchance be. He wanted to do it certain I could neer travel off from him. After I d acquire more womanly, of class ( Hemingway, p. 246 ) . Romero was seeking to turn an independent adult female into a dependent homemaker, a lifestyle Brett could nt Craig 5 conform to. Given all of the information the novel exposes to us about Brett, more than one reading can be made about her character. She could be a nice miss deep down, with fright of committedness lurking in her caput. While I do believe that there is decidedly some truth to this, I still think that Brett has let her past fortunes dictate her life in a negative manner, instead than turning from her hurting and experience. I feel that Brett is utilizing her hurting as an alibi to act in such a harmful manner. She allowed herself to go an highly selfish, inconsiderate adult female, who is willing to ache anyone in her manner in order to acquire what she wants sexually. The last quotation mark being used to be analyzed is one that stood out to me instantly. In the last paragraph she states, Oh Jake, we could hold had such a blasted good clip together ( Hemingway, p. 251 ) . This line proves that her egoism has ironically non merely caused other hurting, specifically Jake, but besides herself. She is her ain worst enemy and her current life style is destroying her opportunities of genuinely being happy once more.

APA Style Term Paper
APA Style Term Paper APA Style Term Paper APA Style Term Paper APA style term paper is one of the widely used format for term paper writing. Before writing term paper, you are welcome to examine the following term paper writing tips: One of the main term paper requirements is that the term paper should be typed. While typing your academic term paper in Microsoft Word, use a default setting of the computer. If you don't know the length of your academic term paper you should ask your tutor about this.Ã The title of the English term paper should be centered but not underline. Use 12 point Times New Roman or Arial font. In the bottom corner of the term paper write personal data (your name, course, date, etc.) The layout should be general. Do not include too many quotations; it certainly will not improve your academic term paper. Every page should have centered title at the top of the term paper. Use double spacing format. Using in-text citation requires a reference page at the end of the term paper. In-text citations may be both direct quotations and paraphrases. Both must be cited on the reference page, otherwise, you will be accused in plagiarism. Quotations may be short as well as long. Quotation should be less than 40 words. The direct quotation should be enclosed in brackets (Ã ) and reference information should be placed close to it, for example (Andrew, 1999). Keep in mind that different methods of citation make your work more interesting to read. Paraphrases usually go at the end of the line of your work. APA does not require page numbers, but your tutor probably does. Author/Year of work is the general format, if author is not known than following this format Title/Year of work. If you do not know the date of publication, you use (n.d. - no date. You should note down references as you conduct your research. Remember, references should be double spaced. The reference page should be alphabetized by author's name and the title of the work. Don't write 'The' when compiling a reference list. If you used Internet sources while writing term paper, give a complete URL address and the date of access. While writing term paper, avoid repetition of the words. The academic term paper will look thoughtless with the same words within several sentences. You should also avoid repetition of the ideas. If this was noticed the tutor would conclude that you have a lack of clarity of thought. Avoid these mistakes.Ã Custom Written Term Paper Not all students have time and skills to write a great term paper.Ã We are here to help these students with term paper writing.Ã We offer only custom service - it means that your term paper is not copy/pasted from internet, it is written in accordance to your instructions.Ã No late deliveries at .com!Ã No plagiarism!

Ethical Perspectives Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Ethical Perspectives - Essay Example Another expectation is that if the company is not announced bankrupt, some of the members will be retrenched. The first approach that corresponds to the above situation is Utilitarianism (the approach means choosing of an option that is of the greater view of most of the people in the organization). The above approach can be considered in the above case by ensuring that top management of the organization is investigated about the charges of corruption bestowed upon them. For the common good of the people in the organization if they are found guilty of an offense then they should be charged and pay back what they had taken from the organization to allow smooth running of the organization. The other approach is Categorical Imperative. This is considered as a moral right action to be undertaken despite the consequences that will follow (Johnson, 2011). Employee should consider informing the top executive of what is happening within the organization for them to change the moral behaviors for the better side of the organization. Based on the case the management board is not fair since it has not incorporated a representative of the employees. Despite the fact that they are junior members in the organization, they play a significant role in ensuring the company meets it objectives and attains it goals. Thus, for equality and freedom of expression within the organization the management board should consider incorporating a representative of the employees. This will help them highlight the immoral activity of corruption taking place. The other ethical approach to be considered with respect to the above case is communitarianism. This approach takes about the common promotion of shared moral values by the community. Since the firm is a community project, it will be of the much significance if the board of directors of the company to ensure that the moral values of their top managers are in-line with the community expectations.
